New Year, New Beginnings

January is notoriously a very quiet month for photographers, but January 2019 seems to have taken a busy turn for us – happy days! Here’s an update of what we (Phil and Vicky) have been up to.

Taking Image Viewings to a New Level

It’s taken some time, 2 years to be precise, but we have finally moved Vicky (me) in to the 21st century!! I am the first to admit I am not very technical savvy, and doing image presentations on the big screen used to drive me nuts. I would get so muddled up and angry with the software during image viewings that I wanted to throw the laptop against something hard (mainly Phil). So I decided to move to a more traditional approach by using proof prints. Which had its advantages – main one being no confusing software – but it was still not versatile enough to really demonstrate how amazing your family portraits will look at home. So, after lots of research we have finally found a user-friendly ‘Vicky-friendly’ software. The big screen TV is back, with slideshow to music, easily select your favourite images, and even see how your images will look in you own room at home.  The first family to test it out on was the Clifton family. They chose a stunning 4 image multi-frame and were able to see how it will actually look.

Photo Shoot Session with the Hall Family

One of our first shoots of 2019 was with the Hall family, who came to the studio on 7th Jan. The shoot was a Christmas gift for the grandparents with their two grandchildren aged 7 and 4. When they arrived, straight away mum made Phil aware that one of the children is on the Autism spectrum. This allowed Phil time to talk to mum to find out a little more about likes and dislikes, and how to get the best out of him. The shoot was great fun and a great experience, which showed in the final images. Grandma and Grandad were over the moon.

Wedding Fayre Season

Wedding Fayre season is upon us. With newly engaged couples over the festive period, starting to plan the most magical day of their lives. On Sunday 20th January, we exhibited at the beautiful Middleton Hall. Along with great local wedding suppliers, we were greeted by loads of excited Bride’s and Groom’s to be. We’re looking forward to being at Lea Marston Hotel on 3rd March, and Ramada Sutton Coldfield on 24th March.  For our top tips on how to ‘survive’ wedding fayres, click here .

Wedding of Shannen and Stephen at Ramada Sutton Coldfield

On Friday 15th June 2018, we had the pleasure of providing the wedding photography for Shannen and Stephen at Ramada Sutton Coldfield.

The bridal party preparations took place in the hotel, and we were both there to capture the final preparations. The Bride’s room was filled with excitement and laughter, with something going on in every corner of the suite. The Bride was very calm, which even she was surprised about. Once the dress went on though, a few butterflies were flitting around.

Downstairs, the Groom was eagerly awaiting his Bride. The ceremony was conducted in the oldest room of the hotel, with the sun beaming through the stained glass windows. The ceremony was lovely, with tears of joy and laughter. Following the I do’s, everyone was led into the garden for reception drinks. With 140 guests and a list of group shots the happy couple asked us to take, we got straight on with the photos. One photo the Bride very much wanted was the heart, which we created with the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen. The hotel has very recently installed a beautiful gazebo in the garden, which we took full advantage of. Below are few shots from their special day.

We would like to thank Shannen and Stephen for choosing us to capture your wedding, and wish you all the very best for the future.

Wedding Photography at Birtsmorton Court

Wedding of Amie and Ross at Birtsmorton Court

On 14th December 2017, we made the journey to Birtsmorton Court, near Malvern in Worcestershire, to capture the wedding of Amie and Ross. A little further away than our usual area, but it was certainly worth it!

The venue dates back to 1241, with stunning architecture and gardens. It also has its very own church in the grounds. There are very few venues which give you the option of a church ceremony or civil ceremony. Amie and Ross had their ceremony in the church, which is stunning and was a lovely service. Following the ‘I do’s’, on a very chilly, snowy day, we headed into the breathtaking gardens for the group shots and Bridal portraiture. To warm up, we headed back inside to the roaring fire place and Christmas tree, which provided a great back drop. The theme of the day was Beauty and the Beast, which was executed brilliantly, with very apt table centre pieces and an amazing cake (check out the cake below).

A couple of weeks before the big day, we met with the happy couple to discuss their photography and create a personalised shot list, as we do with all of our couples. They asked for one particular shot very personal to them, which I have included in a small selection of images from the day. We would like to thank Amie and Ross for choosing us to record your special day.

Wedding at Moor Hall Hotel

Wedding of Sarah and Adam at Moor Hall Hotel

On the 29th December 2017, we had the pleasure of providing the wedding photography for the lovely Sarah and Adam. The ceremony was conducted at St Michael’s Church in Boldmere, followed by Reception at the beautiful Moor Hall Hotel in Sutton Coldfield.

The day started off at home with the Bride, Bridesmaids and family getting ready for the special day ahead. Racing ahead of the bridal party, we joined the Groom and Groomsmen at the Church, in time for their last few words of encouragement. The ceremony was lovely surrounded by their family and friends.

Once we arrived at Moor Hall Hotel, with it’s vast grounds and extraordinary features, it was time for us to really get to work. With so many stunning backdrops for wedding portraits, we were truly spoilt.

Once the meal was devoured, and nervous speeches done, night had fallen, therefore the perfect opportunity for some night time portraits. The Bride and Groom had also arranged some sparklers for a bit of fun with the Bridemaids and Groomsmen.

We would like to thank Sarah and Adam for choosing Philip Charles Photography to record your special day, and wish you all the happiness for the future.

Wedding at The School House

Wedding of Natasha and Tom at The School House, Lichfield

On Friday 15th December 2017, we had the pleasure of covering the wedding of Natasha and Tom. The ceremony was held at the beautiful St Chad’s Church in Hopwas, followed by Reception at The School House in Lichfield.

On the morning of the wedding we threw open the curtains to find snow! As a photographer about to photograph the most important day of a couple’s life, seeing snow certainly gives you a funny feeling in your stomach. We joined the bride at home to capture the preparations, spirits were certainly high.

Following the “I do’s” at St Chads Church and a few photos, we moved on to The School House. The venue was decorated beautifully in Christmas theme, with lots of red and balloon Santa’s. It truly was a family event with lots of entertainment for the children by Weddings by Thelma.

Unfortunately, the Bride’s grandmother was unable to attend the wedding, as she was in hospital very poorly. The bride wanted to see her Grandmother on her special day, so the couple sacrificed some of their photography time to go to the hospital to visit her. Phil asked if they would like him to accompany them to get a portrait with her, which they jumped at. It was such a privilege to be part of this special moment with the family, and one we will always remember.

We returned to the reception to carry on the celebrations.

Below are a few images from the day. We would like to thank Natasha and Tom for choosing us to be part of your very special wedding day, and wish you and your lovely family all the very best for the future.

Wedding at Somerford Hall

Wedding of Joanna and Kyle at Somerford Hall

On 18th November we had the pleasure of providing the photography for Joanna and Kyle’s special day at the stunning Somerford Hall in Brewood.

The Bride, Bride’s mum, and Bridesmaids all got ready at the venue, which we went along to capture the preparations. As you can imagine, numerous women getting ready in one room, it was rather chaotic, but spirits were high with excitement for the beautiful day ahead. Whilst Joanna was in the final stages of getting ready, we popped down to get some shots of Kyle with his Groomsmen. They were all definitely in high spirits.

The ceremony was lovely, with lots of laughter and emotion. There was a moment during the ceremony where there was a loud noise, it was just Phil dropping his camera! Luckily nothing was broken, and did provide some amusement to the guests. Following the ceremony, everyone moved outside to the stunning gardens for reception drinks and lots more photographs. The building itself offers a great backdrop for the bridal portraiture, along with its wooden gazebo. Internally, the staircase and bridal suite offered more great photographic opportunities.

The day was already special, but to make the day even more special, it was the Bride and Groom’s daughter’s 1st birthday. A cake was brought out whilst the whole room sang to the birthday girl.

We would like to thank Joanna and Kyle for choosing us to capture your day. Below are just a few of our favourite images. If you would like to talk to us about your wedding photography, click here to contact us.

Wedding at The Alexandra Court Hotel

Amy & Andrew’s Wedding at The Alexandra Court Hotel, Congleton

On 5th August 2017, we had the pleasure of capturing the wedding of Amy and Andrew, held at The Alexandra Court Hotel in Congleton.

This is a little further afield than our other wedding venues, but it was certainly worth the journey. Amy and Andrew are such a lovely couple, we would have travelled even further to be part of their day.  We provided full day coverage from the bridal party getting ready in the hotel, through to the first dance. The ceremony was conducted outside in the beautiful grounds, luckily the weather was glorious. The couple wanted very relaxed, candid photos recording the day as it happened.

The showstopper had to be the cake! Amy and Andrew love books, therefore the theme was based around their favourite novels. The table centre pieces were stacked books, and the cake …… take a look for yourself in the images below from the day.

Wedding at Moxhull Hall

Masquerade Wedding at Moxhull Hall, Sutton Coldfield

On 15th June, we had the pleasure of capturing Anne-Marie and Roy’s special day at Moxhull Hall in Sutton Coldfield.

The theme of the wedding was Masquerade, which was absolutely fantastic. All of their family and friends embraced the theme, wearing masks in every colour and style possible. The bride looked stunning in blue and green, with peacock feathers. The ceremony took place in Calliope’s Garden under the gazebo. The weather was certainly on the happy couple’s side with glorious sunshine. Walking down the aisle, the Bridesmaid and Page Boys put on an excellent show, announcing the Bride’s arrival. As a personal touch to the service, the Groom walked up to meet his Bride, to walk down the aisle together, which was truly lovely.

After the ceremony, as an added personal touch, a gold picture frame and chalk boards were waiting for us at Reception. In place of a Guest Book, the Bride and Groom wanted their guests to write a message on the chalk board and have their photograph taken in the frame. These shots were arranged and taken by Vicky, whilst Phil was with the Bride and Groom doing their portraiture.

Below are some of the images from their day.

Farm Wedding in Nuneaton

Jamie-Leigh and Pete’s Farm Wedding

On 1st July, we had the absolute pleasure of providing wedding photography for Jamie-Leigh and Pete’s farm wedding. The ceremony was conducted at Nettle Hill in Coventry followed by reception on their farm in Nuneaton.

This was a truly traditional farm wedding. The theme execution was absolutely spot on, with every attention to detail. The work that the couple put in to make the farm into a perfect wedding venue was immense. They built a haystack stage for the entertainment to perform on, built a swing and bridge over the pond for the photographs, dressed the marquee superbly, and even built a bar using an old box trailer.  This was a dream wedding to photograph with so many shot opportunities.

Here are just a few of the images.

Bridal party arriving by tractor – superb start to the day!

The ceremony was intimate and lovely

The Groom being coy with the kiss, but don’t worry, we caught it from the back of the room. The advantage of two ‘togs’ being there to capture different view points.

Travelling in style, from tractor to the very rare Polaris

Stunning portraiture on the purpose built bridge and swing

The confetti shot

The cake, love it!

Traditional barn dance by the bridal party kicked off the evening party.

This will be one of our most memorable weddings. Thank you so much to Jamie-Leigh and Pete for choosing us to record your special day. Note to the couple – as mentioned on the day, you should open this up as a wedding venue – it’s amazing!!

Wedding at The Plough and Harrow, Birmingham

Wedding Photography for Jasmin and Klaus

On 3 June 2017, we had the pleasure of providing the wedding photography for Jasmin and Klaus at The Plough and Harrow Hotel in Birmingham.

The happy couple were joined by their family and friends, many of which had flown in from Germany. The ceremony was held at St Dunstan’s in Kings Heath, Birmingham. Followed by Reception at the stunning Plough and Harrow Hotel. The hotel’s Victorian architecture offers a beautiful backdrop to group photos and Bridal portraiture. We very much like working at this venue, the staff are excellent to work alongside and co-ordinated with great precision.

The day was very relaxed, and thoroughly enjoyed by all. As the couple are from Germany, some of their customs were incorporated in their day. Such as having the speeches in between courses, which worked really well. One of our customs that did take them by surprise was when I jumped in the front seat of the car to take their photo before leaving the chapel. This is one of my favourite shots, so it had to be done.

Below are few of our favourite shots from the day. We would like to thank Jasmin and Klaus for choosing Philip Charles Photography and wish you all the best for your future together.

If you would like to talk to us about your wedding photography, please contact Phil and Vicky on 01827 215 707. Or scroll down to the enquiry form.
